KNOW MORE ABOUT THE ORIGINS
Merengue is also born in the Dominican Republic but it has African roots. This style is even older than bachata (already from 2 centuries ago)! Currently it’s part of the cultural history of the island.
Merengue has become quite popular with its fast rhythm. The accordion, tambora and güira bring 3 major continents together, making this another
truly carribbean product.
As with most other Latin and Caribbean dances, the secret to dance merengue with flow lies in the hips.
Because of the geographic location the Dominican Republic, we can recognize 2 kind of merengue. Dominican Merengue and Haitian méringue. The principal difference is the tempo. Merengue is slower and melodic, while méringue has faster-paced tempo.
