KIZOMBA

KNOW MORE ABOUT THE ORIGINS

Kizomba means “party” in the Kimbundu language. So when you think about Kizomba, you should imagine people having a great time!

We can talk about Kizomba in two ways; Kizomba as a dance style or Kizomba as a music genre.

Dancing wise, Kizomba is an evolution of Semba, one of the traditional dances in Angola at the time. Semba was danced since the 50’s but Angolan dancers adapted their Semba steps to the lower and more romantic beats of kizomba.

As a music genre, Kizomba has direct influences from traditional Semba (predecessor of Brazilian Samba) and  Caribbean Zouk music. With these pillars, Kizomba emerged as a genre with sensual sounds and African rhythms.

Thanks to the Caribbean Zouk and Angolan Kizomba influence, some Cape Verdiant artist made their own fusion. They mixed it with Coladeira and so emerged Cola-dance, Cabo-love, Cola-zouk, Cabo-swing and Ghetto Zouk.

DANCE CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS AND ADVANCED?

KIZOMBA

Born in Angola, it is world wide known as the dance style where connection is sacred.

This dance style is an evolution of the angolan traditional Semba. This evolution surged from the adapting of Semba moves to the Kizomba beats.

Many people find Zouk influences in Kizomba, but we have to remark that the influence is only musical.

OUR VISION

Adapting George Balanchine quote, kizomba is music made visible.

We focus on building up a strong upperbody connection and clear weight transfer language.

In our classes we want to give you the best of both sides, traditional and urban-kizz. So your core moves will be based on traditional steps and later you will add some urban flavours to it.
